Water for espresso in South Africa

Scale is the number one reason machines come to our workshop. Hard water in Gauteng will fill a boiler with limescale within a year of daily use.

Very soft water has its own problem: flat, lifeless shots and, in some boilers, corrosion. Aim for 50–100 ppm total hardness with some alkalinity.
